Benitez on rumored gubernatorial run: The election is still too far
by Paulo Loreto Lim on February 17, 2017
Rumors of political parties scouring the province for candidates to succeed Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., whose third and final term ends in 2019, were recently confirmed by Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who said he has been approached to run.
“The election is still too far,” he remarked. “We have a lot of things do, I’d rather focus on that.”
Previously, during Marañon’s birthday celebration, the governor endorsed Benitez as a future senatorial candidate, noting Negros Occidental has not produced a senator in a long time.
Both are members of President Rodrigo Duterte’s PDP-Laban, however, Benitez is also a member of the local Love Negros party, alongside current Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson./WDJ
