INALMAHAN ni Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, chair of the Committee on Housing and Urban Development ang pagkaltas sa alokasyon ng gobyerno sa 2018 para sa sektor ng pabahay.

Pinuna ni Benitez ang pagbagsak ng panukalang alokasyon para sa pabahay na P4.795-bilyon sa 2018 o mas mababa nang 68.8 porsyento kumpara sa 2016.

Nakadidismaya aniya na ang nilalaang badyet sa pabahay ay nasa 0.13 porciento lamang ng kabuuang alokasyon ng pambansang badyet na P3.35-trilyon para sa 2018.

Dahil sa lumiliit na alokasyon ay mas imposible aniyang malutas ang problema sa pabahay.

Ang malaking bulto ng badyet sa pabahay ay mapupunta sa National Housing Authority (NHA) na P2.235-bilyon samantalang ang Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) ay mabibigyan ng P773.63-milyon.

“We have long been grappling with homelessness and each year the country’s housing needs, especially in urban areas, keep on swelling along with population growth and rapid urbanization,” ayon kay Benitez.

Batay sa Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), lumobo na hanggang sa 6.8 million sa 2022 ang problema sa pabahay para maresolba ang problema sa pabahay.

“To address this, the Government should allocate more funding for housing programs for poor and low-income families, particularly those living in informal settlements and danger areas,” giit ni Benitez.

Hindi rin naiwasan ni Benitez na batikusin ang tila pagpapabaya sa sektor ng pabahay.

“The government’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ (BBB) program should not just concentrate on transportation infrastructure. Building affordable and adequate homes for poor Filipino families should be part and parcel of our efforts to ensure inclusive and sustainable development,” dagdag pa ni Benitez. MELIZA MALUNTAG
