Duterte vowed not to oppose NFR

Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Albee Benitez said yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte assured him that the President will not oppose the Negros Federal Region (NFR).
Benitez was among speakers during yesterday’s federalism rally at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City that kicked off the federalism roadshow initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Benitez also confirmed that the Negros Island Region (NIR) formerly formed through an EO issued by former President Noynoy Aquino is included in the draft as NFR that will be submitted by the Consultative Commission to the President for signature.
Benitez, vice chairperson of the House Committee on Constitutional Reforms, said they will also schedule a review of the ConCom draft.
Benitez, together with DILG Asec Jonathan Malaya, Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Remollo, Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor, and others, led the signing of the manifesto in support of federalism.
During the program the federalism seal was also unveiled.
