The Brightlight Productions head talks to Rappler about the future of TV entertainment
A few years back, Albee Benitez was slugging it out at the House of Representatives, where he led the Visayac bloc and headed the committee on housing. But in 2020 – and in the middle of a pandemic – Benitez shifted his focus to what may seem like an unlikely venture: media and entertainment.
The former Negros Occidental congressman is now producer to at least 6 entertainment programs – from variety musical to news magazine shows – through his company, Brightlight Productions.
Brightlight, which first focused on movies, produces a full lineup of shows for TV5 – many of them headlined by on- and off-cam talents from ABS-CBN.
In this episode of Rappler Talk, Benitez talks to entertainment editor Bea Cupin about why he's entering show business, why a blocktime deal with TV5 makes sense, and the future of TV entertainment in the Philippines.
