Mayors in Negros Occidental 3rd district pledge better services

July 1, 2016

Three mayors in the Third District of Negros Occidental who took their oaths of office in separate ceremonies on Thursday pledged to provide better services to their constituents.

In Silay City, first term Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez vowed to work for the realization of their team’s campaign platform.

These include restoring peace and order by declaring an all-out war against drugs, achieve food sufficiency, and help food processors, landless workers, and informal settlers.

Golez, who took his oath before Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez, said that his administration also intends to establish a city college and improve existing schools as well as set up more government facilities like a public market.

“I am determined to raise our people from the gutter of neglect and help them achieve a better way of life,” the Silay mayor said, adding that the best way to start is by healing from the wounds brought by the recent elections.

In Talisay City, Mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio “Neil” Lizares said: “Change is coming for the people of Talisay City. It is not about fixing something broken, but it is creating something better.”

Lizares, also a neophyte mayor, vowed to work for the improvement of the city’s health facilities and implement more infrastructure projects.

He added that under his leadership, the city will also invest in human capital through strong partnership with the business sector that will offer opportunity for development especially for small entrepreneurs.

Speaking in Talisay, Benitez said, “Election has passed and it’s time to heal. By healing, we can unite, and in unity there is progress.”

Meanwhile in Murcia town, Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano said his goal is to make the town number one in the last three years of his administration.

Montelibano took his oath before Murcia Municipal Circuit Court Judge Blas Nolasco in the presence of his family members, and beauty queens who hail from Murcia.

On his third term, the mayor said he will promote women empowerment which has not been given importance in his first two terms.

The beauty queens who witnessed the oath-taking of Montelibano were led by Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism Queen of the Year International 2015-2016 Leren Mae Bautista, Lin-ay sang Negros 2015 Jessica Zevenbergen, and Mutya ng Pilipinas Negros Island Region Queen 2016 Renelyn Deguit. (EPN/TDE)
