Talisay City and Murcia town split top honors in volleyball during the championship round of the 3rd Albee Cup Inter-LGU Sportsfest held in Victorias City during the weekend.

It was a heartbreaking weekend for the E.B. Magalona spikers as its men’s volleyball team bowed to Talisay in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-14, while its lady spikers yielded to Murcia in a five-set thriller, 25-27, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 13-15.

Murcia placed third in the men’s group by beating Victorias, 31-29, 25-12, while Silay won the battle for third in the women’s department also against Victorias, 25-14, 25-10.

Remo Banaho of Talisay was named most valuable players in men’s volleyball and Ailene Nepomuceno of Murcia received the award in the distaff side.

Victorias failed to advance to the finals after dropping their semi-final match-ups against Talisay and Murcia, respectively.

Talisay secured the final seat with a 25-11; 27-25 win against Victorias while Murcia women spikers prevailed in three sets.

The Murciahanons almost made it also in the men’s final round but E.B. Magalona blocked their way with a 25-7; 19-25; and 17-25 victory in the semi-finals.

E.B. Magalona also stopped Silay in the women’s semifinals, 25-11; 25-19.

Organized by the congressional office of third district Rep. Albee Benitez, the inter-LGU competition aims to fortify the physical and mental toughness of government employees and to build a strong relationship among the local government units in the dstrict.*
