Household electrification on track in Third District

Lights for the 602 households in the far-flung areas in the Third District of Negros Occidental will soon be a reality under the Department of Energy’s Household Electrification Program, a press release said.

‘Lower crime age to ensure reform’

A Negrense solon, who was among the House Committee on Justice members who approved the bill that would lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 15 years old to 9 years old, said it is geared toward providing reform for offenders.

Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod partylist) is an ex-officio member of the House Justice Committee.

He said that, under the proposed measure, children will not be jailed with regular inmates but placed in reformative institutions, citing the Bahay Pag-Asa, to which a budget will be allotted.

3rd District has 50,000 informal settler families

There are more than 50,000 informal settler families in the third district of Negros Occidental, Marie June Pavillar-Castro, district coordinator on housing concerns, yesterday said.

Castro said there is an ongoing Habitat housing project in Brgy. E Lopez, Silay City, while Rep. Alfredo Benitez has set aside P4.5 million for land acquisition by local government units in the district.

House passes bill ensuring land for socialized housing

The House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading, a bill that will ensure availability of sufficient land for socialized housing by tapping idle government land for the purpose.

Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said House bill 8553 or the ”Idle Government-owned Lands Disposition Act” was approved following a 203 affirmative and 2 negative voting on the floor early this month.

Pag-Ibig CEO backs creation of human settlement departm

PAG-IBIG Fund chief executive officer (CEO) Acmad Rizaldy Moti is supporting the move to create the Department of Settlement and Urban Development to address the housing problem in the country.

Moti said the creation of the new department will soon become a law. 

The bill in the House is authored by Negros Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez while its counterpart bill at the Senate was authored by Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito.
