Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd Disrict) urged local government officials and all Victoriahanons to reflect not on the past events that have led to the declaration of independence of the country, but on what the future will be for all.

Speaking from the balcony of the Victorias City Hall, his hometown in Negros Occidental, during the early morning Independence Day program yesterday, he urged the people of Victorias to contribute in making Victorias a premier city, not only of the province but of the whole country as well, by focusing on the development of the young generation, a press release from his office said.

UNegA gives guv authority for Love Negros merger talks

United Negros Alliance members Saturday authorized Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and former Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer to begin merger talks with Love Negros for the 2019 mid-term elections, Board Member Salvador Escalante, UNegA secretary general, said yesterday.

The UNA members held a closed-door meeting at Nature's Village Resort in Talisay City to assess the recent barangay elections, tackle party matters, and discuss a possible merger with Love Negros should elections push through in 2019, he said.

"No one opposed the proposed merger, it is acceptable to all," Escalante said.

The question is what kind of merger could it be, Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson of Love Negros for governor with Ferrer as his running mate, a Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District)-Ferrer ticket, or the other way around, he said.

That was what Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said when asked yesterday for his reaction to a Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson-former Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4 th District) tandem for governor and vice governor of Negros Occidental in 2019.

The possibility of the tandem, that would mean the unification of Love Negros, of which Lacson is a member, and the United Negros Alliance where Ferrer belongs, was raised by UNegA secretary general Salvador Escalante Tuesday.

The chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development is urging the National Housing Authority (NHA) to nullify the transfer of rights for housing units unlawfully sold by beneficiaries of the government’s socialized housing programs.

In House Resolution 1906, Rep. Alfredo Benitez  of the Third District of Negros Occidental said there are many cases where beneficiaries of the housing programs of the NHA had either sold or rented out the housing units and/or lots awarded to them.

The chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development has asked the National Housing Authority to declare null and void thousands of transactions for the transfer of housing units and lots sold by original beneficiaries of government socialized housing programs.

The call is embodied in House Resolution 1906 that Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez filed in order to put an end to housing’s the boom and bust situation blamed mostly to so-called “professional urban poor community settlers”.

NHA to redesign houses on stilts for Zamboanga siege refugees

MANILA- The National Housing Authority (NHA) will redesign the controversial houses on stilts for the refugees of the 2013 Zamboanga siege.

NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada made the statement on Tuesday during an inquiry of the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Urban Development on the collapse of a footbridge in the city last month.
