Congressmen hold executive session to fine-tune consolidated BBL bill

Heeding President Duterte’s call to prioritize the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law, congressmen cut short their summer vacation, went back to work and held an executive session to fine-tune a consolidated BBL bill.

This developed as the Anak Mindanao Partylist represented by Rep. Amihilda Sangcopan warned that it will reject a “diluted and watered down BBL.”

BACOLOD City – A former provincial board member has started a signature campaign urging Rep. Albee Benitez (3rd District, Negros Occ.) to run for governor in the 2019 elections.

Former board member Patrick Lacson, a son of former Negros Occidental governor Daniel “Bitay” Lacson, said in his Facebook account that he believes that the provincial government under the administration of Benitez “will cut short economic development from decades to just years.”

SENATE President Aquilino Pimentel 3rd has asked President Rodrigo Duterte to certify as urgent the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) that seeks greater autonomy for Muslim Mindanao.

Also on Friday, the 42-member “Visayan bloc” in the House of Representatives echoed President Duterte’s call for the immediate passage of the BBL.

The Visayan Bloc, an organization of 42 congressmen representing congressional districts and party-list groups in the Visayas, on Friday declared its support for the swift passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) “that is consistent with the provisions of the Constitution.”

Headed by lead convenor and Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez, the Visayan Bloc issued its manifesto of support a day after President Duterte met with congressional leaders and officials of various Muslim organizations to discuss the legislative proposal that is widely seen as the formula that will put an end to the secessionist war in the south.

MEMBERS of the Visayan Bloc at the House of Representatives led by Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo "Albee" Benitez on Friday, April 6, called for the immediate passage of a Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

In a statement, the group said it firmly believes "that the BBL will pave the way for long-lasting peace and socio-economic development in the proposed Bangsamoro region by allowing the establishment of a regional government that is anchored on the Bangsamoro identity."
