House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez yesterday said that Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) remains on the list of senatorial bets of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan for 2019.
Alvarez made the clarification after announcing the names of 8 of 12 PDP senatorial bets at the mass oathtaking of new PDP-Laban members in Caloocan City Tuesday, which did not include the name of Benitez.

THE Office of Negros Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez clarified yesterday that the lawmaker is still on the list of the senatorial line-up ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for the 2019 elections.
It said that House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has already clarified that Benitez is still part of the senatorial slate of the administration party and that he just forgot to mention his name when he was interviewed by the media and gave some names of those included in the list.

In what could be considered as a rare occasion, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez today humbly admitted he erred on the list of senatoriables comprising the dominant Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino slate for 2019 he provided the media.
Alvarez said he unintentionally omitted the names of party stalwart, Negros Occidental Rep. Alfred “Albee” Benitez and Malacañang Asst. Secretary Mocha Uson.

Marañon said this before the capitol press Tuesday when asked to comment on the information that Benitez sought advice from him on the “best way to serve the province.”
According to Marañon, Benitez’s skill in legislation can be useful not only for Negrenses but for all Filipinos.

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Tuesday, March 20, that Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez is more needed and fitted to be senator.
“Okay man, if he will be governor because he can do a lot for Negros but he is needed more in the Senate, he is better than those actors who have done nothing there,” Marañon said.

NEGROS Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez will ask the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for P3.6 billion allocation for the sugar industry in 2019.
The P3.6 billion includes the P1.6 billion unused funds from the P2 billion annual allocation of the Sugarcane Industry Development Act (Sida).

BACOLOD CITY—The insistence of the Lower House to pass a bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections was only creating “false hope for the people,” said Senator Cynthia Villar.
She maintained that the May 14 polls would push through as there was not enough time to pass a legislation to postpone it.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday that while an initial survey shows that he is within striking distance ofwinning should he run for the Senate in 2019, he still has not ruled out running for governor of Negros Occidental, or opting not to run at all.
Benitez, who met with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday, said they were finalizing plans for his proposed health, power and water summits for Negros Occidental, which the governor fully supports.
