Former Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who is the lead convenor of the 48-strong Visayan bloc, yesterday called on Congress to act quickly, on whether or not to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN Corp.
Benitez said the Visayan bloc and other solons are in agreement that Congress should tackle the issue on franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Corporation, and whether to grant it or not.
“How can we make a decision, if there is no hearing, if they say that there are certain violations?” he asked.
Benitez said he cannot understand why Congress is not acting on it quickly, although he noted an acceleration of discussions by different people, who are, for the franchise renewal or not.
“They should have held a committee hearing, discuss it and move on,” Benitez added.
Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), the younger brother of Alfredo, also said earlier that he is not in favor of the ABS-CBN closure.
Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte also expressed her support for the franchise renewal of the television network.*
