Will it be a Benitez-Lacson tandem in 2019?
Negros Occidental ViceGovernor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said that this will be known in October 2018, and recalled that he made his decision to run for re-election as vice-governor in the 2016 elections, also on October 2015.
Lacson, however, said that they are not talking 2019 elections yet.
Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who is now on his last term as congressman of the 3rd district of Negros Occidental had earlier admitted that there are people who are pushing him to run for governor of the province in the 2019 polls.
Before the 2016 elections, Benitez had alsobeen endorsed by Negros Occidental officials headed by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and members of the Visayan bloc to run for senator. But he opted to seek re-election as congressman of the 3rd district.
Benitez said he has yet to make a decision on his political plans, and that he will continue to focus on what needs to the done in his district.
Lacson said that Congress is also busy discussing the tax reform and death penaltylaws. “So, we really had not discussed anything about 2019,” he stressed.
Marañon is now on his third and last term as governor of Negros Occidental. * GPB
