The elections are still far off, but there are reportedly people who are pushing Rep. Alfredo Benitez to run for governor of Negros Occidental in the 2019 polls.
Benitez, who is now on his last term as congressman of the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, admitted Wednesday night that he is being urged to run for governor.
“As far as my political plans, I have yet to decide,”, Benitez said at the birthday party of Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca held at the Victorias City Coliseum.
Before the 2016 elections, Benitez had been also endorsed by Negros Occidental officials headed by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and members of the Visayan bloc to run for senator. But he opted to seek re-election as congressman of the 3rd district.
“Election is still far, we have more jobs to do. I would rather focus on what more needs to be done (in the district),” Benitez also said.
Marañon is now on his third and last term as governor of Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, Benitez said, the city of Victorias is moving ahead, with so many developments being introduced by Palanca, like establishing partnerships with cities in other countries.
So this will definitely bring development to Victorias City, he added. * GPB
