SECOND District Board Member Salvador Escalante said Wednesday, June 14, that the United Negros Alliance (Unega) will support the future political plans of Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez.
This, after Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. assured support for Benitez if he will run either for senator or governor in the 2019 elections, said Escalante, secretary-general of Unega.
Benitez belongs to the rival Love Negros with Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
Escalante said that the two local parties will not necessarily forge an alliance, but they can have common candidates.
“If Benitez runs for governor, Unega can field a candidate for vice governor or vice versa,” he added.
Whether Unega will also support Lacson if he decides to run for governor in 2019, Escalante said they have no commitment about that yet. (TDE)
