Household electrification on track in Third District

Lights for the 602 households in the far-flung areas in the Third District of Negros Occidental will soon be a reality under the Department of Energy’s Household Electrification Program, a press release said.

In a recent coordination meeting in Victorias City, facilitated by the Office of Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), Jimmy Planas of DOE briefed the participants of the status of preparing beneficiary households to comply with the requirements to avail of the home-based solar system kit.
Areas covered are barangays Amayco, Canlandog, Minoyan, Salvacion, and Sta. Rosa in Murcia. Five sitios of Barangay Katilingban in Talisay qualified, and three sitios of Barangay Guimbalaon in Silay are reached. In EB Magalona, five sitios in Barangay Canlusong, and two sitios of Barangay 20 in Victorias are also included, the press release said.
The HEP solar kit, using the renewable energy system, will provide electricity for lighting, radio, MP3 player, and phone charger to remote areas unreachable by power lines. The beneficiaries are organized into associations, and local government unit heads and barangay leaders are tapped for support.
The DOE directly administers procurement until the installation of the off grid power system, supports the social preparation and capacity-building, conducts regular monitoring, and offers technical assistance to beneficiaries.
The office of Benitez serves as the coordinating center to ensure the smooth flow of implementation and facilitate synergy among program participants, the press release said.
Present in the meeting were Ceneco representatives Jennefer Tajunio and Junjun Peconcillo, Carlo Allan Aquino of Trademaster, Cesar Gallarin of the Friendship Builders Foundation, program partner of DOE, Malu Resurrecion from the Congressional Office, and staff of the District Office led by Programs and Services head Lagrimas Silvestre and executive assistant Paz Marie Valenciano. Philippine Women’s University president, Dr. Francisco Benitez, the younger brother of Cong. Benitez, also attended the meeting, the press release added.*
