“I would support that.”
That was what Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said when asked yesterday for his reaction to a Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson-former Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4 th District) tandem for governor and vice governor of Negros Occidental in 2019.
The possibility of the tandem, that would mean the unification of Love Negros, of which Lacson is a member, and the United Negros Alliance where Ferrer belongs, was raised by UNegA secretary general Salvador Escalante Tuesday.
That is a “very positive possibility”, Lacson said in reaction Wednesday, adding “I think it only tells us that both camps would prefer a unified team in 2019”.
Lacson also said there is nothing final yet, he is still waiting for Benitez, who has yet to decide on whether to run for governor or senator, or quit from politics.
Benitez, in turn, said yesterday, “How can I support someone and run against him. Bong and I are from the same party. We will not go against each other.”
Ferrer said Tuesday that the Lacson-Ferrer tandem is “possible”, if there is unity and consensus between UNegA and Love-Negros.
“As a party member, whatever is the decision of the party, I will abide with it,” Ferrer said “It’s up to the party, whom they will endorse,” he added.*CPG
