NEGROS SOLON: ‘HOLD HEARING ON HFCS IN NEGROS’
Mon, 03/13/2017 by Edith Colmo
The venue for House committee hearing on High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) must be conducted in Negros Occidental, so it will be easier for all stakeholders of the dollar-earning sugar industry to air their sentiments on the interest of the industry and they will no longer travel to Manila.
This was the proposal of Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya having requested the Committee on Agriculture to hold the hearing here.
Gasataya said, he is just waiting for the result of his request, which may be finalized before the recess of Congress, and the inquiry can be held even during the recess.
He also said, 15 congressmen from sugar producing provinces and a party list have sought a House inquiry into the unabated entry of HFCS to the country, to ensure the sustainability of the domestic sugar industry.
They are Mercedes Alvarez (Negros Occ., 6 th District), Alfredo Benitez (Negros Occ., 3 rd District), Leo Rafael Cueva (Neg. Occ., 2 nd District), Juliet Marie Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4 th District), Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1 st District); Alejandro Mirasol (Neg. Occ., 5 th District), Manuel Sagarbarria (Neg. Or., 2 nd District), ArnulfoTeves Jr. (Neg. Or., 3 rd District), Melecio Yap Jr. (Neg. Occ., 1 st District), Emmanuel Billones (Capiz, 1 st District), Manuel Zubiri (Bukidnon, 3 rd District), Joseph Stephen Paduano (Party List – AbangLingkod), Noel Villanueva (Tarlac, 3 rd District) and Arcadio Gorriceta (Iloilo, 2nd District).*(Edith B.
