Officials from Western, Eastern and Central Visayas are converging in Metro Manila tonight for the “One Visayas” launching, Rep. Arnulfo “Arnie” Teves (Neg. Or., 3rd District) said yesterday.
Joining the launching are the congressmen, governors and mayors of the three Visayan regions, Teves said, adding that he expects close to a 100 percent attendance.
Negros Island officials are also set to join the launching.
“The agenda will be mainly on how we can work together for the economy of the Visayas,” he said.
Asked if it will also be a political party, Teves said, “We will tackle the economic side first.”
“For now I cannot say if we will call it a party, a movement or what,” he added.
The prime mover of “One Visayas” is Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) supported by the members of the Visayan bloc in the House of Representatives, Teves said.
The group is geared towards ensuring economic cooperation among the three Visayas regions, he said.
“But of course you cannot take away politics because a lot of the stakeholders are politicians,” he said.
Tonight’s activity will be the launching and about getting to know each other, he said.*
