Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya said yesterday he is lobbying to have the House Committee on Agriculture hearing on the unabated entry of High Fructose Corn Syrup into the country to be held in Negros Occidental.
Gasataya said he had requested the Committee on Agriculture to hold the hearing in the province so it will be easier for all the stakeholders because they will not have to travel to Manila.
This may be finalized before Congress takes a recess this week and he is just waiting for the result, he said.
There is a possibility that they can hold the inquiry even during their recess, Gasataya said.
EarlierGasataya had said that 15 congressmen from sugar producing provinces had sought a House inquiry into the unabated entry of HFCS into the country, to ensure the sustainability of the domestic sugar industry.
They were Mercedes Alvarez (Negros Occ., 6th District), Alfredo Benitez (Negros Occ., 3 rd District), Leo Rafael Cueva (Neg. Occ., 2nd District), Juliet Marie Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4 th District), Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District);
Alejandro Mirasol (Neg. Occ., 5 th District), Manuel Sagarbarria (Neg. Or., 2 nd District), ArnolfoTeves Jr. (Neg. Or., 3 rd District), Melecio Yap Jr. (Neg.
