120 patients undergo surgery through Nikki Cares Mission

A TOTAL of 120 patients from the Third District of Negros Occidental will undergo surgical operations under The Nikki Cares Surgical Mission organized by Dominique “Nikki” Lopez Benitez, wife of Representative Alfredo Benitez.

The three-day mission started Thursday, November 23, at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, with the assistance of 81 doctors and nurses as well as health-related personnel of the Makati Medical Center.

SENATE President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said Negros Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo “Albee” Benitez is inclined to join the senatorial race in the 2019 elections.

Pimentel, president of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), bared Friday, October 6, the initial list of senatorial candidates who will banner the administration party in the next polls.

HOUSE Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez asked the new members of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to vote straight for the senatorial candidates of the administration party in 2019.

Alvarez, who administered the oath of about 12,000 Negrense members on Thursday in the cities of Bacolod and Victorias, sought the support of party members for the next senatorial elections.

LOOKS like there won’t be a clash between Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez in the gubernational post in the 2019 elections.

The lawmaker said Sunday that “we will not run against each other.”

Benitez, who is on his third and final term, was included in the senatorial slate of the administration party in the next elections.

THIRD District Representative Alfredo Benitez said Monday that about 9,000 local officials in Negros Occidental will join the mass oath-taking of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on October 5 at the Victorias City Coliseum.

Benitez said House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, party secretary-general, will swear in the incoming PDP-Laban members in the province.

Sugar leaders ask 6-year moratorium on excise tax

SUGAR industry leaders in Negros Occidental are seeking a six-year moratorium on the imposition of excise tax on sugar sweetened drinks.

This was announced by former vice governor Emilio Yulo III, spokesperson of Sugar Alliance of the Philippines, during the “Sugar and More” Negros Summit held Thursday, September 7, at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City.

Yulo, who also represented Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri in the gathering, said the committee report on the tax reform package will be released in the next few weeks.

‘Stronger actions’ for sugar industry

LOCAL government officials in Negros Occidental are seeking stronger action from various stakeholders to strengthen the sugar industry amid the challenges it is facing.

During the “Sugar and More” Negros Summit held Thursday, September 7, at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City, industry leaders and stakeholders agreed to submit resolutions to various agencies and institutions in the effort to strengthen measures.
