Negros Occidental Provincial Board Member Alain Gatuslao recently revealed the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) is planning to hold a convention ahead of the 2019 elections.
He called it a “fellowship,” saying members have not met as a group lately.
With Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. in his third and final term, talk has arisen surrounding a possible gubernatorial run for Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who was recently backed by the mayors of his district.
Gatuslao said UNegA has already pledged their support for the congressman, despite being from rival local coalitions.
“If he runs for governor, he is very much qualified and capable,” he affirmed. “He is worthy of our support.”
The board member also left open the possibility of an UNegA-Love Negros alliance before the year ends.
Meanwhile, with incumbent Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson indicating an interest in being Marañon’s successor, Gatuslao said he has always been supportive of Lacson’s legislative agenda./WDJ
