The Visayan Daily Star: 178 Players Join Cong Benitez & Mayor Golez Badminton Fiesta Cup

One hundred seventy eight badminton players from all over the province saw action in the 1st Cong. Albee and Mayor Mark Badminton Fiesta Cup held on November 12 and 13 at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City.

Ian de Asis, tournament manager and Shirwin Santibañez, Silay City executive assistant for sports managed the two-day sportsfest that had three categories – school, 40 up age group, and open.
Silay Mayor Mark Golez welcomed participants, underscoring the important role of sports development in ensuring peace, unity and progress in the community. Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez relayed his message of support not only for sports programs of Silay City, but to all multi-sectoral efforts in the District and beyond that strengthen youth and sports development.
Winners are the following: men’s double 40 up-Aaron Francisco & Romel Paguio, Arrows; Pablo Espera & Jose Panes, Arrows/Victorias Badminton Club; men’s double 30 up – Rey Gustilo & Eden Ronzales, Pohang; Rondee Lumanog & Cesar Raymundo, St. Scholastica’s Academy/Pohang.
Girls double under 19 – Mia Manguilimotan &Ellana Tan, United Shuttler’s Alliance – St. John’s Institute Team; Shamtella Amante & Jaqueline Pantoja, Madaguar Badminton Academy- Cadiz City. Boys double under 19 – Kerr Longno & Clifford Nicor, Jaguar Badminton Academy, Cadiz City; John Daniel Cortez Ababao & Eljee Gavile, Trinity Christian School. Boys single under 19 – Earl Joseph Carballo, USLS; Eldrick Paul Co Tan, Trinity Christian School.
Girls double under 17 – Cheska Kaye Lomugdang & Faith Taala, Trinity Christian School; Ria Patricia Santotome & Shane Toleco, Negros Occ. High School.
