Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said he is waiting for Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) to make an announcement on the post he plans to run for in the 2019 polls.
“I’m waiting for him to make that announcement, I’m seeing him maybe this weekend. Hopefully he is ready to make that announcement,” Lacson said.
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. is on his last term and is not up for reelection.
Although Lacson is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and Benitez of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan, both belong to the local alliance, Love Negros.
Lacson is said to be eyeing the governorship, while Benitez is weighing his options on whether to run for senatoror governor.
“I have already stated thatI and Cong Albee will not face each other in a political battle.” They will agree on just one candidate for governor, he said.
Lacson is on his second term as vice governor and can still seek reelection to the post.
On the proposed unity ticket for Negros, Lacson said the intention is to bring back the 2001 scenario where we had common candidates.
“I think most of the politicians in Negros would like to have a united slate,” he said.*CPG
