NEGROS Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez said Thursday the reduced P2-billion sugarcane industry fund for next year was already addressed.
“We’re given P1.4 billion, which is short of P600 million from the P2 billion mandated appropriation. We had a gentleman’s agreement with the Department of Budget and Management and the House committee on appropriations that the P600 million balance will be added to 2018,” he said.
The annual P2 billion mandated appropriation from the national government is intended for the various projects of the sugar industry including infrastructure, block farming, socialized credit, farm mechanization and scholarship program, and research.
Benitez highlighted the passage of the Sugarcane Industry Development Bill into a law as among his accomplishments, during his State of the District Report held at Silay City Civic Center Thursday.
