Governor Alfredo Marañon yesterday described Rep. Alfredo Benitez(Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) as a “good administrator”, should he become the governor of Negros Occidental.
Marañon, who is now on his last term as governor, said it is “okay” with him, if Benitez will be the governor.
Benitez, who is also now on his last term as congressman of the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, had earlier admitted that there are people pushing him to run for governor of the province in the 2019 polls.
But Benitez said he has yet to make a decision on his political plans, and he will continue to focus on what needs to the done in his district.
“I think he (Benitez) will make good,” Marañon said.
Reports have cropped up that there will be a Benitez-Lacson tandem in 2019 elections.
Vice-Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, however, said that his political plans will be known in October 2018 yet. He also said that they are not talking 2019 elections yet.
Before the 2016 elections, Benitez had alsobeen endorsed by Negros Occidental officials headed by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and members of the Visayan bloc to run for senator. But he opted to seek re-election as congressman of the 3rd district.
In the 2013 elections, Benitez supported Genaro Alvarez, who was then the vicegovernor of Negros Occidental, in the gubernatorial race. ButMarañon defeated Alvarez in that election.* GPB
