Six hundred (600) households in twenty-two (22) far-flung sitios/puroks/haciendas in eight (8) barangays in Victorias, EB Magalona, Silay, Talisay and Murcia are all set to receive their solar home systems this March, that will provide them power for lighting and appliances, allow them to charge their cellular phones, and enable them to listen to the radio.
The Cabuyawan-Lawaan Solar Power Association of Barangay 20, Victorias with Dr. Jose Francisco Benitez, Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and Punong Barangay Hugo Tirambulo.
These communities in the Third District are so remote they have been certified as off-grid by the electric cooperative serving the area, or cannot be reached by power lines in the next three years.
The Magtahos Solar Power Association of Barangay Minoyan, Murcia with Dr. Jose Francisco Benitez, Vice-Mayor Gerry Rojas, and CENECO Engineer Jennifer Tanjuyon, focal person for CENECO Household Electrification Program.
In a simple program held March 27, 2019 at the Barangay 5 Covered Court in Silay City, a ceremonial turn-over of the solar home system to the Solar Power Associations organized to represent the beneficiaries, was conducted by the Department of Energy represented by the Central Negros Cooperative, Office of Congressman Alfredo Benitez represented by Dr. Jose Francisco Benitez, all the local government units representatives and barangay officials, and Trademaster, supplier of the solar home system.
Last year, through the efforts of Congressman Alfredo Benitez, the DOE identified areas that can be covered by the Household Electrification Program. The synergy among the LGUs and the barangays, CENECO and the Congressional District Office made possible the organization of the Solar Power Associations to ensure the operation and maintenance of the program.
Barangays covered include Brgy. 20 in Victorias; Canlusong in EB Magalona; Guimbalaon in Silay; Katilingban in Talisay; and Amayco, Minoyan, Salvacion, and Sta. Rosa in Murcia.*
