99% chance no brgy polls in October

There is a 99 percent chance that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October will be postponed, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) , said yesterday.

“The majority's sentiment in Congress is to have the elections postponed,”he said.

What needs to be deliberated on is the desire to appoint public officials, which is a little bit ticklish, Benitez said.

“Personally I feel that is better that we have holdover barangay officials,” he added.

The Senate also does not want barangay officials to be appointed if the elections are postponed, Benitez added.

He said that when Congress resumes on July 24 he is sure the elections will be taken up, there is still enough time to postpone the polls, he said.*CPG
