Former Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez believes former ABS-CBN Bacolod news anchor Ryan Gamboa, who currently serves as a Silay City councilor, would make a “capable” provincial board member.
The city councilor is a presumptive candidate for Negros Occidental Philippine Councilors’ League president and faces Sagay City Councilor Arturo Marañon of the United Negros Alliance for the post.
The winner earns a seat on the Negros Occidental provincial board.
While it was earlier reported the former news anchor was Love Negros’ candidate in the race, Benitez would not confirm if the coalition was formally backing his candidacy and said they are also considering Sipalay City Councilor Ralph Alvarez and Kabankalan City Councilor Miguel Zayco for the nomination. However, Alvarez already declined the nomination and Zayco said does not want “conflict” with Marañon.
The two local political coalitions earlier announced a merger./DGB, WDJ
