Although our chief executives and lawmakers have nothing to do with the upcoming elections, we all know that the results of the May 2018 elections will have a huge bearing in the possible outcome of the midterm elections.

The guessing game is still on whether or not Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will be a candidate for Negros Occidental governor in next year’s elections.
Lacson said he is still waiting for the decision of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District), who has the option to run for senator, governor of Negros Occidental, or to retire from politics.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez yesterday said that Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) remains on the list of senatorial bets of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan for 2019.
Alvarez made the clarification after announcing the names of 8 of 12 PDP senatorial bets at the mass oathtaking of new PDP-Laban members in Caloocan City Tuesday, which did not include the name of Benitez.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday that while an initial survey shows that he is within striking distance ofwinning should he run for the Senate in 2019, he still has not ruled out running for governor of Negros Occidental, or opting not to run at all.
Benitez, who met with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday, said they were finalizing plans for his proposed health, power and water summits for Negros Occidental, which the governor fully supports.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) yesterday said he will lobby for the allocation of P3.6 billionin 2019 to further boost the competitiveness of the sugarcane industry.
Under the Sugarcane Industry Development Act, which he authored in the Lower House, P2 billion should be allocated by the Department of Budget and Management annually for the industry, he pointed out.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said he is waiting for Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) to make an announcement on the post he plans to run for in the 2019 polls.
“I’m waiting for him to make that announcement, I’m seeing him maybe this weekend. Hopefully he is ready to make that announcement,” Lacson said.

Twenty-one national government agencies with offices in Western Visayas and all the mayors of Negros Occidental’s Third District committed their full support to Rep. Alfredo Benitez’ IHELP priority programs for 2018 and 2019 in a Strategic Planning session held March 8-9 in Tagaytay City, a press release from his office said.
The two-day marathon meeting attended by regional directors and heads, included identification of priorities with budgets for 2018-2019 and dialog to reach mutual agreements on critical points for convergence.This is Benitez’s second planning session with national agencies, the first was in 2015.

More resettlement sites for informal settler families are expected to be developed in the towns and cities of the Third District in Negros Occidental in the coming years, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) said in a press release from his office.
