Growing up, he said he liked to watch Chinese action films that starred Jet Li, Jackie Chan, or Bruce Lee.

We are proud of Negrense beauty titlist Vickie Rushton, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) and Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares said yesterday.

Rushton, 26, who is from Talisay City in the third district of Negros Occidental, won six special awards, but failed to secure any of the five crowns in the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas competition at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.

MANILA, Philippines — Mass housing developers urged the government to prioritize the housing of one-stop processing centers in various regions of the country.

In its bid to be economically competitive, the municipal government of EB Magalona has tapped the help of the business sector in Negros Occidental to improve its economic climate.

The local government, led by Mayor Marvin Malacon, initiated a consultation meeting with the leaders of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday at 21 Restaurant in Bacolod City. In a closed-door meeting presided by Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, convenor of the organization of congressmen from the Visayas region, the lawmakers reached a consensus to meet again next month to choose who to support in the speakership race.

The Visayan Bloc on Tuesday agreed to vote for a common candidate for speaker of the incoming 18th Congress, hinting that Leyte Rep.-elect Martin Romualdez will likely be their bet for the House’s top post.

In a closed-door meeting presided by Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, convenor of the organization of congressmen from the Visayas, the lawmakers agreed to meet again next month to choose whom to support in the speakership race.“The Visayan Bloc has demonstrated how unity works in the pursuit of a common legislative agenda for the Visayas region. The House Committee on Housing and Urban Development chaired by Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd District, Negros Occidental) on Monday successfully settled the dispute among the National Housing Authority (NHA), R-II Builders, Inc. (RBI), and the Home Guaranty Corporation (HGC) regarding the Smokey Mountain Development and Reclamation Project (SMDRP).

As reported during past hearings conducted by the ADHOC Committee headed by Rep. Winston Castelo (2nd District, Quezon City), the RBI, NHA, and HGC participated in mediation proceedings before the Court of Appeals upon a directive to explore the possibility of an amicable settlement to resolve allissues surrounding the SMDRP.

Newly-created housing department should address delayed P725.16-M project

The chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development Thursday acknowledged the audit observations raised against the Socialized Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), saying that the newly-created Department of Housing and Urban Development should swiftly address the Commission on Audit’s (COA) comments on the P725.167 million project as a priority as soon as it becomes fully operational.

Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said shortage of land for socialized housing, including relocation sites for informal settler families (ISF), was among the problems that the DHUD must quickly resolved.
