The COVID-19 testing laboratory at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City that is now operational will shorten the quarantine period for returning overseas Filipino workers (OWFs), who are found negative for the virus, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday.
The laboratory can have test results out in two to four hours, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Former Rep. Alfredo Benitez, provincial government economic adviser, yesterday said he expects negative gross domestic product (GDP) growth for Negros Occidental in the second quarter of this year.
The quarantines imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are taking their toll, he said.
During the Enhanced Community Quarantine about 900,000 jobs halted out of the 1.4 million labor force in the province, Benitez said.

PROVINCIAL Consultant on Economic Affairs Alfredo Benitez said vital equipment for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) laboratory at Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City will be arriving Saturday, May 2.
“Our RT-PCR equipment with automated RNA extraction machine will be arriving today with Cebu Pacific flight. Soon we will have our own Covid-19 laboratory,” Benitez said.

Former Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, Negros Occidental provincial consultant, said yesterday the laboratory for COVID-19 Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City is expected to be operational by May 8.
The equipment will arrive Saturday and we are asking the Department of Health that the medical technicians assigned to the laboratory be trained simultaneously, he said.

PROVINCIAL Consultant on Economic Affairs Alfredo Benitez sought through a letter to the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas to expedite turnaround time of laboratory results for Negros Occidental.
Benitez in his letter to DOH-Western Visayas director Dr. Marlyn Convocar pointed out that during the first week of April, the results of the patients being tested for the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19 takes only three days.

Former Rep. Alfredo Benitez is asking Health Regional Director Marlyn Convocar to act on the delay in the release of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test results from the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) bio laboratory in Iloilo.
Benitez, Negros Occidental consultant on economic affairs, in a letter sent to Convocar Monday, said during the first week of April, the turnaround time for the release of results was three days. At present, it takes one week, with no definite release date indicated or advised, he said.

Life will not return to normal in Negros Occidental by April 30, for the rest of the year we will be in some sort of quarantine because we have to protect our people from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), former Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said yesterday.
The Enhanced Community Quarantine in Negros Occidental was set to end on April 30 but Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson appears inclined to extend it.
